The Deming Institute Annual Conference

In October 2018 I was awarded a scholarship to attend The Deming Institute Annual Conference in Manhattan Beach, CA. It was obvious that I was just one person in the room of hundreds of excellent leaders from a variety of industries. Attending this conference was a great honor and taught me a lot about transformational leadership in business. Attending the conference was eye-opening because a couple of years prior I was an HR Manager for a company. The owners did not exhibit good leadership skills. Needless to say, the attrition rate was astronomical and the employee morale was horrible.

Even with my attempts to implement transformational leadership it was difficult because the owners refused this leadership style. I found it is critical that all leaders of the business have the same vision and ideals when running a company. The W. Edwards Deming Institutes Annual Conference taught me the importance of integrity, trust, loyalty, genuine communication, and motivating employees to work towards a shared vision and as Deming put it, "the aim of leadership". - W.
